Football Federation Victoria (FFV) has released the new Lighting Policy and Requirements for season 2010.
All clubs intending to play night fixtures need to read the policy and requirements document and obtain certification by an independent, qualified lighting consultant as soon as possible.
Clubs planning to develop lighting for night matches in the future should also use the requirements Lighting Policy and Requirements (Lighting 2010) as the basis for the specification of lighting installations and upgrades.
Lighting 2010 is based on the relevant Australian Standards (AS2560.2.3-2007, Sports Lighting - Lighting for All Football Codes).
The key changes from previous requirements include:
- 100 lux as the amateur standard and 200 lux for semi professional leagues (VPL and Men’s State League 1);
- A clear process for auditing lights to confirm they are up to standard;
- A requirement for reliability and a penalty where lights fail other than for reasons beyond the club’s control;
- A moratorium on full compliance for VPL and Men’s SL 1 for the upcoming season to allow time for any upgrades as necessary. At a minimum compliance with the Amateur standard is required.
FFV is seeking to strike a balance between enabling clubs to hold night matches, managing risk (hence the use of Australian Standards) and ensuring that visiting teams and the sport are not inconvenienced by preventable lighting failure.
